WHAT IS REIKI HEALING?

MY AWAKENING

My Aunt taught Reiki on the top of a mountain in New Hampshire, her house filled with the aroma of lavender and vetiver essential oils. As a little girl I watched as she taught women from all over New England how to lay hands and heal.

In college, I had a spontaneous Kundalini awakening during finals week. I prayed for someone, setting my hand on their shoulder, and energy began to shoot out of my palm. I started to shake uncontrollably. Pressure filled my head for a week straight.

What was happening to me?

This was the beginning of my spiritual awakening.

I thought back to my Aunt and I knew I needed to learn Reiki, a system that would help me channel and understand the energy that I was feeling and experiencing.

WHAT IS REIKI?

Reiki is a form of energy healing is that originated in Japan. It involves the transfer of healing energy from the practitioner to the recipient through touch, hovering of the hands, or projection of the energy from the practitioner through time and space. This energy helps promote relaxation, reduces stress, helps heal emotional imbalances, and improves overall health and well-being.

During a traditional Reiki session, the practitioner will place their hands on or near the recipient's body in a series of hand positions. These positions are designed to cover the major energy centers of the body, including the head, chest, stomach, and feet. The practitioner will usually remain in each position for several minutes, allowing the healing energy to flow from their hands into the recipient's body.

Reiki practitioners tune into the seven energy centers in the body and bring healing and balance to each center.

Reiki is a gentle and non-invasive form of healing that can be used to treat a wide range of physical, emotional, and mental conditions. It is often used as a complementary therapy alongside other forms of medicine and treatment.

HISTORY OF REIKI

Reiki was developed in the early 1900s by a Buddhist monk named Mikao Usui, who is credited with discovering the principles and techniques of Reiki.

According to legend, Usui had a spiritual awakening after meditating on a mountain for 21 days. During this time, he received a revelation about the nature of healing energy and how it could be used to help others. He then spent the next few years studying and experimenting with this energy, eventually developing the system of Reiki that is still practiced today.

After Usui developed Reiki, he began teaching it to others. One of his students, Hawayo Takata, brought Reiki to the United States in the 1930s, where it quickly gained popularity. Over time, Reiki has spread around the world and is now practiced in many countries.

APPLICATIONS OF REIKI

People turn to Reiki for many different reasons. Some applications of Reiki include:

1. Being able to share healing energy with friends, family, and even pets.

2. Understanding energy. Working with Reiki helps you to tune into your own energy and the energy of other people. This is why I began working with Reiki!

3. Having the ability to do self-Reiki, where you hold your hands over different parts of your body to stimulate the body to heal itself.

4. Facilitating a personal awakening or deep healing. Reiki training is an initiation that begins with the student. As you gain the ability to use Reiki, Reiki works through you and helps you to experience healing on a deep level.

5. Distance Reiki. Reiki practitioners can send Reiki across time and space. This means not only can Reiki be sent to someone across the world, it can also be sent to past and future experiences.

6. Starting a business or complimenting your healing practice. Reiki compliments many professions, from therapist to massage therapist to teachers. You can also become a Reiki healer as your main profession.

LEVELS OF REIKI

There are three levels of practice: Level 1, Level 2, and Master. Level 1 focused on developing an understanding of the fundamental principles and practices of Reiki. The second level builds upon the knowledge and skills learned in Level 1, and focuses on deepening the practitioner's understanding and ability to use Reiki. This includes learning the Reiki symbols and distance Reiki. Level 3 is Master Level, the most advanced level of practice, and involves learning advanced techniques and theories of Reiki. At the Reiki Master level you can now teach Reiki to other students.
